In our Local Community

The community and its environment are very important to us at LPC. We have recently been presented with an
“Eco-congregation” award in recognition of our efforts to care for our environment both local and global. This included, among other things, working towards a cleaner environment through recycling (ink cartridges, mobile phones etc) local litter picking, community open days and introducing an awareness programme to the wider congregation.

Recently we have created wildlife garden around the side of the church. This includes a seated area and a “wet” area specifically to encourage the growth of local wildlife from wetland plants to frogs, newts and butterflies.

Not long after the church was built in 1995 the congregation decided that decoration of the church building and grounds was important part of the landscaping. We commissioned eleven beautiful mosaic panels for around the outside of the building. The early Biblical themes of these artworks is relevant not only to the church but to the Muslim and Jewish communities represented within Langside Parish. In recognition of the relevance of this "public art" project, it was largely funded by "Glasgow 1999: City of Architecture and Design "

Community groups

We are glad to be able to host local community groups in the church building.

AA is a vital community resource and meets weekly.

The Music Box is a music and movement group for children
aged 18 months – 5 years.

The French Group discusses French life and culture.

Kids Stuff is a parent and child group run by local
district nurses.

The Baby and Toddler group meet once a week.

Contact the church office for more information on any of the above.

The minister works as chaplain to Battlefield Primary School and Langside College. The staff and pupils at Battlefield Primary School are regular visitors to the church.

And in the world wide community...

LPC has an ongoing commitment through personal friendships with the HIV/AIDS Care and Support Hospice in Ekwendeni, Malawi. The church organises a rock concert each year at Queen's Park which raises funds for this work.

We are also committed to helping a project for children and young people in neighbouring Tanzania, through our friend the Rev. Reuben Ngwala who worshipped with us while studying in Glasgow. In 2006 we raised almost £8000 for this project..

LPC is also anxious to promote fair trade. We use fairly traded tea and coffee at church events and Traidcraft stalls are a regular feature at the church.

In addition, we support Christian Aid in a variety of ways and annually write letters on behalf of
Amnesty International.
